It's not so much that Ray was a relationship doomed from the start as that it just was never going to happen. I knew that from the beginning. He wasn't leading me on. I wanted the relationship. He didn't. He was on his own path and needed not to change it.

I just had to tell him how I felt, which was, regrettably, that he should do what he needed to but that I loved him anyway.
